President-Elect's Message

Excitement is in the air! That is the only way I can describe the way I am feeling as we put together the 2010 Summer Conference in Norfolk! The location, technical updates, industry tours, leadership workshop, round robins, awards banquet with entertainment, networking session, college classes, fabulous food and a city abound with activities and beautiful sights awaits you!  You will not want to miss the VATIE 2010 conference. Bring the family; it is only 20 minutes from Virginia Beach!
Let us get down to business.

  • Officer Nominations -Two officer positions are open, Secretary (2-year commitment) and President-elect (6-year commitment). Please download the By-laws to view specific duties for each office. If you are interested or know a member who is, please complete the Officer Nomination form and send it to me electronically or by mail. Nominations accepted up to 30 minutes prior to voting. Time and effort spent on the Board is rewarding and fun, you will never know you are working!
  • Awards – Budget cuts, pay freezes, early retirements - what else do I need to say. It’s disheartening, but here’s an opportunity for you to change the moral of a co-worker, new teacher or an outstanding administrator without it costing you a cent! Recognition from your peers is an intrinsic reward that is invaluable. You can find the nomination forms for Teacher of the Year, New Teacher of the Year, Educator of the Year and our newest award, Roger Johnson Lifetime Achievement. These forms are available from this site under the Documents Tab.      Nomination deadline is June 1st!

  • Membership – We have all heard the saying, “Membership has its privileges.” Well, it is no different here. You must be a VATIE member to take advantage of all we have to offer. It is a requirement to be on the board, run for office, vote for board candidates, consideration for awards, and let us not forget the nifty little gift that Ken loves to give when you pay your membership! Put aside $30 and become a member in good standing. Also, encourage other teachers in your school to join VATIE to increase membership. Remember there is strength in numbers, when someone contacts a state or national legislator your communication carries more validity when you can say I belong to VATIE, an organization representing 1600 Trade and Industrial teachers instead of 300.

I look forward to seeing many of you in Hampton on April 23 & 24th for another exciting Virginia SkillsUSA SLC.  Stay warm!
Rose Blevins
President-Elect
